Buraq Planetary Society, formed in 1993, is the oldest and only registered society exclusively working to spread awareness and understanding of the significance of space sciences within the youth of Pakistan. The society is headed by Mr. Shahid Mahmud and is a corporate social responsibility project of Interactive Group of Companies. In addition to over twenty talks by prominent scientists, intellectuals, and entrepreneurs, the student also learned through eight experiential learning assignments such as hands-on telescope making, water rocket building, lego robot making and programming and much more. The students undertook two field trips to Pakistan Aeronautical Complex and to NUST where they saw the latest advancements in the aeronautics and other engineering disciplines. The camp and prizes are fully sponsored by the Buraq Planetary Society and the selected students are not required to pay any fees or cost to attend the camp. Similar to previous camps, the latest camp brings forty of the smartest students in the fourteen to sixteen age group from across Pakistan to Islamabad to be exposed to some of the brightest minds in physics, strategy and space sciences in the region. The students attended 11 days at Buraq Camp. Students registered on the society’s website were earlier given a simultaneous nation wide written aptitude test, which tested their mathematical and creative thinking skills and was used as the primary criterion for entry to the camp.
